Hi. I do suggest that to the beginning animators here, first study the basics of movement (which drives which), body mechanics, arcs, etc. It is really important to first learn or get yourself used to acting before delving in to the more technical details.
When you're on it already, try to 1) create (or ask) for a functional, effective, and simple rig; 2) practice to use pose to pose fashion of animating then; 3) mix it with straight ahead action; 4) then from there on you can apply your techniques to breakdowns, arcs, weights, overshoot, etc.
Advice ko lang po talaga, as much as possible, make and treat is as simple as possible, learning from my own mistakes at first kung saan banat ako ng banat without even knowing what might arise from this chaos I'm creating. Hehehe!
Additional tip: Use bones or related controls as much as possible instead of resulting to shape keys (as per Blender universe is related), shape keys can really be a pain in the ass in the long run especially in such a tight production environment. I believe you need the optimum flexibility you want and less hassles. But weigh in which does better and which you're most comfortable with and just mix both if you need to.
Good luck, PBUGers! Astig 'nyo talaga, the best! Hehehe! More power!
